Letter: Don’t Make Assumptions About Party Affiliation

Tad Clarke’s editorial (“Cracking the Voter Vault,” July 19) gave me a chuckle and pushed a memory button. Years ago I received my first unsolicited membership card to the Republican National Committee. At the time, I was chairperson of the Montpelier City Democratic Committee (capital of Vermont).

You did not indicate (who knows?) whether photo number 511756490 is one of more than a half billion of the same photo or the latest of more than a half billion different photos of George W. Bush.

If the Republican National Committee is using neighborhood demographics, shame on them. We all know rich Democrats and working-class Republicans. Stereotyping is dumb; making incorrect assumptions about affiliation is stupid.
