Letter: DMA’s Orlando Show Was Great for This Exhibitor

I am writing in response to Tad Clarke’s editorial (“The DMA’s Price,” June 21) in which you shared your views on the Direct Marketing Association’s agreement to bring its fall conference back to Orlando, FL.

My company, Dunhill International List Co. Inc., exhibited at the conference in Orlando last year and, quite contrary to your view of the event, we had a great show. We met with key customers and, as a result of the show, developed a comprehensive list of new prospects.

Our booth was extremely well attended. Bottom line, we sold product. After having such a stellar show experience, Dunhill was sure to sign on for the 2004 show and will look forward to returning to Orlando.

As a longstanding member of the DMA, I am highly disappointed in the overall content of your editorial. For a publication that considers itself the “newspaper of record” for direct marketers, you certainly don’t seem to support the very organization that not only promotes our industry but combats negative industry perception on behalf of its members.
