Letter: Dell, Other Sites Don’t Offer Ways to Update Information

Are you a betting person? This morning I put my 21st letter to Dell in the mail … asking to be taken off its mailing list (“Redesign Follows Dell’s Expansion Plans,” Oct. 6). IF — and that’s a BIG IF– they were interested, I’d be more than happy to tell them I run Macintosh and simply don’t do Windoz … but since there’s no practical means to offer them such market intelligence, I’ll just keep trying to get off the mailing list.

Sooooo, wanna take a bet on whether the new Web site will have some means to request such a change? HINT … I visited the Web site of the top 100 catalog sites (Dell is actually No. 1), and fewer than five had any means to request an address change; e.g., I’m getting duplicates, I’m not interested, you’ve misspelled my name, this person is dead, etc.
