S’ a funny thing – but the four guys featured in the “I Covet a Caples” call-for-entries promotion are acknowledged by the international group of Caples’ judges – all creative directors – as being brilliant, whether they do or don’t work in our discipline.
Robert W. Bly said, “The mailer implies that these four ad guys are ‘great minds,’ but unless they can show me one major control they’ve written …”
My answer: Robert, don’t try to elevate yourself by insinuating those who practice other advertising disciplines shouldn’t be judged “brilliant” unless YOU vet their work and personally agree.
As a direct marketing writer, I thought you’d enjoy the call for entries. Guess we were wrong. Shame. But the four guys should be amused by your remarks.
