Lands' End Holiday Sales Up 12%

Lands' End's holiday season sales rose 12 percent from the same period in 1999, the company reported this week.

Sales in the eight-week period that ended Dec. 22 totaled $394 million, up from sales of $352 million during the year-ago period.

Lands' End U.S. catalog demand increased more than 20 percent but resulted in a 15 percent U.S. net sales gain because of increased back orders and out-of-stock orders. Catalog circulation and prospecting strategies in 2000 not only produced strong sales but also generated more than 1.2 million new buyers.

Sales on the company's Web site, www.landsend.com, were almost 50 percent more than Internet sales in the 1999 holiday period.
