Lands' End Holiday Sales Rise 8 Percent

Total revenue at Lands' End for the nine-week period ending Dec. 28 rose 8 percent to $462.6 million, from $427.1 million, the company said yesterday.

Total revenue for the 48 weeks ended Dec. 28 was up 6.3 percent to $1.43 billion, from $1.35 billion the previous year. Net income for the period was $64.7 million, or $2.16 per share, up from $36.7 million, or $1.20 per share, a year earlier.

The company also said its net income for the 2001 holiday season rose 29 percent to $43.6 million, or $1.45 per share, from $33.9 million, or $1.13 per share the previous year.

The company reported total merchandise sales of $427 million for the 2001 holiday season, up 8 percent from $394 million in 2000. Internet sales rose 35 percent to $92 million, from $68 million a year earlier. Core business segment merchandise sales were up 8 percent to $276 million in 2001, from $255 million in 2000. Specialty segment sales rose 6 percent to $111 million, from $105 million. International merchandise sales rose 18 percent to $40 million, from $34 million.
