Lands’ End Reports Sales Down For Fiscal 2000

Specialty catalog and merchandising company Lands' End, Dodgeville, WI reported yesterday net sales for fiscal year 2000 were $1.320 billion, down 3.8 percent from the prior year’s $1.371 billion. The apparel cataloger claims that the decrease in sales was due to a planned reduction in catalog pages mailed and that it had planned the year as a transitional period in which it reduced unprofitable mailings, reduced expenses, and liquidated excess inventory in preparation for new merchandise.

Sales for the core business segment were $780 million, down 9 percent from the previous year.

Lands’ End’s specialty business segment had the strongest performance for fiscal year 2000, with sales at $397 million, up 9 percent.

Sales from the international business segment were $143 million compared to $146 million last year.

The 52-week fiscal year ended January 28.
