Karen Elliott House retires from The Wall Street Journal

Karen Elliott House is retiring as senior vice president and publisher’s post at Dow Jones’ Wall Street Journal.

House is a 32-year Dow Jones veteran and Pulitzer Prize winner.

Dow Jones also confirmed CEO Peter Kann’s successor with the naming of Richard F. Zannino, currently the company executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Zannino becomes CEO Feb. 1 of the financial media giant when Kann relinquishes that post to retain only the chairman’s title until he retires next year at 65.

House will stay behind for a couple of months to help Zannino ease into his job.

Kann and House are married to each other.

Meanwhile, several personnel changes were announced yesterday at key Internet companies.

On the market research side, Gary Stein quit as senior analyst at JupiterResearch to join BuzzMetrics, a word-of-mouth research firm in New York. An interactive marketing expert, Stein is part of BuzzMetrics’ client services department based out of San Francisco.

Stein’s move comes soon after Forrester Research, Cambridge, MA, lost principal analyst Jim Nail to media measurement and business software firm Cymfony Inc., Watertown, MA. Nail is now chief strategy and marketing officer at Cymfony.

Also, Loyalty Lab Inc., San Francisco, named online comparison shopping service Shopzilla chairman Chuck Davis to its board of directors. Davis led Shopzilla’s sale last year to E. W. Scripps Co.
