Kaplan Releases New Guide for Nonprofits

Kaplan Publishing released a new guidebook for nonprofits called “Publicity for NonProfits: Generating Media Exposure that Leads to Awareness, Growth, and Contributions.”

Author and former publicist Sandra Beckwith wrote the book.

The book focuses on how nonprofits can use publicity techniques to reach fundraising goals, recruit employees and capture the public’s attention.

Ms. Beckwith said these goals can be reached through creating an affordable publicity plan, choosing the right strategies, pitching stories to the media, drafting op-ed pieces, pitch letters and public service announcements.

The book includes examples of these outreach tactics.

Ms. Beckwith graduated from Utica College of Syracuse University with a degree in journalism and public relations. In 1994 and 2003 she received the Silver Anvil award from the Public Relations Society of America for promotional campaigning.

She is currently a consultant, handling communications for a nonprofit organization funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Kaplan Publishing is an education, career and business publisher. They publish books on test preparation, admissions, academic and professional development, general business, management, sales, marketing, real estate, finance and investing.
