Justice Department Probes Airline 'Supersite'

The Justice Department is investigating the airline Web site currently being created by five major carriers for antitrust implications.

The “supersite” is being developed by American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines and United Airlines as a hub where travelers can purchase tickets and get travel information.

The launch of such a site could have far-reaching implications on the travel industry, especially for the smaller travel sites such as Travelocity.com. The American Society of Travel Agents applauded the investigation.
