Jupiter Media Metrix Files to Liquidate

Jupiter Media Metrix Inc., once a high-flying Internet consultancy, has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to liquidate and dissolve the company.

The New York company will stay in existence for three years as a non-operating entity once it files for dissolution in Delaware, where it was incorporated.

“The board has approved the plan to dissolve and liquidate the company, and that requires a shareholder vote and we're moving in that direction to schedule,” said Susan Hickey, vice president of investor relations at Jupiter Media Metrix.

Jupiter on June 21 said it had sold its Jupiter Research and events businesses to publisher INT Media Group Inc., Darien, CT, for $250,000. INT also will assume some liabilities.

That sale followed a June 6 announcement that Jupiter had sold its Media Metrix Internet audience measurement division in the United States and Canada. ComScore Networks Inc., Reston, VA, paid $1.5 million for that.

The Media Metrix sale came two months after Jupiter sold for $8.5 million its AdRelevance online advertising measurement unit to NetRatings Inc., Milpitas, CA.

Jupiter Media Metrix soon will seek shareholder approval to change its corporate name to JMXI Inc. as part of a deal when it disposed of Media Metrix and Jupiter Research and events businesses.
