Junkscience.com, Washington, yesterday launched its “Organic Is Just Marketing” sweepstakes.
The Web site is seeking to provide information and create a debate about the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s rules concerning the labeling of organically grown foods.
To enter, Junkscience.com site visitors must e-mail their opinion to the Agriculture Department about whether there should be a USDA seal for “organic foods.” Opinions can be positive or negative.
Public opinion surveys indicate that a seal would convey a sense of food quality, safety, nutrition or environmental benefit over other foods, but Junkscience argues there is no scientific evidence to support that claim.
The contest winner will receive $1,000.
