Retailer JCPenney has introduced a mobile coupon program for its Houston customers via a partnership with mobile technology firm Cellfire.
The program enables customers to use mobile coupons that are scanned at the point of sale in JCPenney stores. To do so, consumers must first download a special Cellfire tool to their phones, which they can use to access the mobile coupons. These barcoded coupons then can then be checked through point-of-scale scanners in 16 JCPenney stores in the greater Houston area.
Domino’s Pizza and Caribou Coffee are among the brands that have added mobile coupons to their marketing strategies in the past year. A group of grocery chains, including A&P, Food Emporium, Superfresh and Waldbaum’s also adopted a mobile couponing program.
The retailer will promote this program on its Web site, as well as through e-mail and mobile advertising this month. September is National Coupon Month.
The coupons offered through this program are the same ones that the retailer is offering through direct mail marketing. A new deal will be listed via the mobile application every week for the rest of the year. Offers will include targeted discounts and mobile-redeemable rewards.
Consumers can register for Cellfire’s service at cellfire.com/jcpenney or by texting “JCP” to 22888 on their phones. To receive JCPenney coupons, shoppers must be registered with Cellfire and live within the Houston metro area.
