The J. Jill Group reported yesterday that its net sales rose 15.3 percent for the third quarter ended Sept. 25, reaching $94.9 million compared with $82.3 million in the year-ago period.
However, the Quincy, MA, company generated an operating loss in the quarter totaling $4.3 million compared with a loss of $4.7 million in the prior year's third quarter. Also, the company posted a net loss of $2.6 million versus a net loss of $2.9 million in the third quarter of the previous year.
J. Jill is a multichannel marketer of apparel for women 35 and older. It offers its products through retail stores, catalogs and its Web site, jjill.com.
In the direct segment, net sales per 1,000 square inches circulated during the quarter jumped 34 percent from the same period last year. Comparable-store sales rose 4.7 percent.
