IWCO Direct to acquire Transcontinental Direct’s US locations

IWCO Direct, a Chanhassen, MN-based company specializing in direct mail, has acquired the US direct mail operations of Transcontinental, a Montreal-based printer. The deal, announced February 10, is expected to close this spring. Terms were not disclosed.

IWCO will acquire facilities in Warminster, PA; Hamburg, PA; Downey, CA; and Fort Worth, TX. They will continue to operate under the Transcontinental Direct name until the deal, which requires regulatory approval, is completed. Those printing facilities, which generated US revenues of $153 million last year, employ about 1,200 people, according to a statement from Transcontinental.

Transcontinental and IWCO representatives were not immediately available for comment.

In a statement, Jim Andersen, president and CEO of IWCO Direct, said in a statement that the acquisition will “provide a robust national total package footprint for our customers seeking innovative and cost-effective programs for customer acquisition, loyalty and engagement programs.”

The printing industry has seen a recent spate of consolidation. Last month, Quad/Graphics acquired Worldcolor for more than $1 billion. Direct Group has also sold a fulfillment center to Budco.
