While it may seem like the hot new software coming out these days all circulates around mobile marketing and social media, e-mail has not ceased to drive new innovation as well.
The most recent example comes from Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. He has introduced a new software company called Xiant, which is born out of an e-mail organization tool called Xiant Filer. The new tool, which is currently available in a beta version, began as a personal project for Allen to help him deal with his own inbox overload. Essentially, the Xiant tool, designed by Allen and Vulcan Technologies, lets users organize their Microsoft Office Outlook inboxes to make e-mail more efficient.
The tool integrates into Outlook and makes filing recommendations based on how the specific user already organizes their inbox. So it learns your filing preferences, and then makes recommendations to make things more organized. It also lets users simultaneously file batches of related messages
So what does this mean for e-mail marketers? The possibility to be filed away, I suppose, which is not necessarily a bad thing. If consumers are able to file marketing messages in the middle of a busy work day, they are probably doing so with the plan to go back and look at these messages all at once. With this kind of inbox picture, marketers looking to capture the attention of a consumer should really be looking for stand out headlines and relevant offers.
