Illinois Sets Interim DNC Rules

The Illinois Commerce Commission approved a series of interim rules last week establishing a state do-not-call list, according to an Associated Press report.

A commission spokeswoman said the Federal Trade Commission’s announcement of a national do-not-call list will not affect Illinois’ plans.

The interim rules will be in effect for 150 days. After that period, permanent rules are to be put in place.

The rules will allow consumers to put their names on the DNC list for a $5 fee, according to the report. Registration will start in the spring, and calls to names on the list will be prohibited beginning July 1. Fines of up to $1,000 will be levied for a violating the DNC list.

Exemptions to the law include solicitations for companies that have an “established business relationship” with customers.
