Ikea Uses Bathroom Space for Advertising

Ikea, the Swedish furniture chain, is taking a unique approach to marketing job opportunities. The company is placing handwritten job advertisements on lavatory walls.

“In the toilet people are more relaxed and receptive to our message,” Ikea’s Jimmy Ostholm told the Kvallposten evening newspaper in Sweden.

The company is advertising for copy editors and project managers on the walls of restaurants in Malmo’s Lilla Torget area.

The ads cost a tenth of the price for traditional newspaper ads, and the company received 60 applications over four days — four to five times the usual response rate for a traditional ad, Ostholm said.
