Idaho Sees Drop in Telemarketing Complaints

No-call violation complaints made to the Idaho attorney general's office have dropped 73 percent since the state launched its no-call law in 2001, the state attorney general said yesterday.

More than 250,000 numbers are registered to Idaho's no-call list, which is maintained separately from the national no-call list. According to the attorney general, the state received 1,481 complaints of no-call violations in 2001 and 404 complaints in 2003.

The majority of telemarketers are working to comply with the law, attorney general Lawrence Wasden said in a statement. Nevertheless, telemarketing solicitations were the No. 1 source of consumer complaints in 2003, generating 627 complaints including alleged no-call violations.
