IBM, eBay Reach Marketing Deal

IBM Corp. plans to sell new and used computer-related products over eBay under a three-part marketing deal unveiled yesterday.

A recently completed eight-month pilot program that sold a limited amount of computers and servers at eBay solidified the deal.

An IBM-branded button now appears at eBay's home page. Clicking it brings viewers to 59 equipment offers as of yesterday, with most being straight sales pitches and some encouraging the user to enter a bid in an auction. The number of offers at the site is set to increase over time, an IBM spokesman said.

EBay, San Jose, CA, an auction Web site offering everything from concert tickets to automotive parts, has also selected IBM's software in an effort to enhance its operations.

In addition, IBM, Armonk, NY, and eBay plan joint marketing initiatives across their business units.

The length of the contract and the financial terms were not disclosed.
