The House of Representatives today defeated a bill that would have delayed the proposed switch from analog to digital television broadcasts to June.
The Senate had approved the bill earlier this week. The switch is now set to occur February 17 as originally scheduled.
President Barack Obama had asked Congress to delay a planned switch from analog to digital television broadcasting, saying many consumers relying on analog TV sets are not ready for the change.
When television broadcasts switch from analog to digital, untold new opportunities for digital and mobile marketing will be available, because the Federal Communications Commission voted to make the unused TV spectrum, commonly referred to as “white spaces,” available to the public.
Telecom giants Verizon and AT&T spent a combined $15.5 billion for access to the valuable airwaves when they free up.
