Several key management appointments at the U.S. Postal Service were announced last week by postmaster general William J. Henderson.
John Ward, who had been vice president of marketing systems since 1985, was named vice president of finance/controller. He succeeds Richard Porras, the new chief financial officer and senior vice president, who was named to his current position July 4.
Ward, a 24-year postal veteran, was responsible for the filing and implementation of the 1997 rate case before it was submitted to the Postal Rate Commission. He also oversaw a major re-engineering of regulations and pricing structures at the USPS.
Anita J. Bizzotto will succeed Ward as vice president of marketing systems when she returns from the MIT Sloan Fellows program next year. Bizzotto, also a 24-year postal veteran, has held several positions in finance and marketing. Michele Denny, currently manager of Business Mail Acceptance, has been appointed acting vice president in the interim.
Henderson also announced the following field management positions:
* William J. Brown, currently vice president of area operations, Midwest, will become vice president of retail operations in St. Louis.
* William J. McComb has been named vice president, area operations, Midwest, in St. Louis.
* Robert T. Davis has been appointed vice president of area operations, Southeast, succeeding David Bakke, who retired this year.
* Patrick R. Donahoe has been named vice president of area operations, Allegheny, which covers Ohio, Pennsylvania, Delaware and parts of Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia.
Henderson is getting high marks for his choices.
“It seems to me that Bill is picking the right people, at least so far, in the selections he has made, and we are encouraged by that,” said Barry Brennan, director of postal affairs at the Mail Advertising Service Association, Alexandria, VA.
