Several large healthcare companies said yesterday they would launch an online business-to-business exchange in the third quarter. The marketplace will be formed by Johnson & Johnson, General Electric, Baxter International Inc., Abbott Laboratories Inc. and Medtronic Inc.
The site will facilitate the exchange of information related to the buying, selling and distributing of medical equipment and healthcare products worldwide. It will also provide extensive clinical content, the companies said. The exchange will be based in Chicago and is being established with equity investments from the founding members. There will be no transaction fees charged to customers, the companies said.
