Harte-Hanks Buys PrintSmart Assets

Direct marketing services firm Harte-Hanks bought the equipment and operations of print-on-demand provider PrintSmart Inc. in an effort to boost its digital printing capabilities.

The assets will be combined with those at the company’s East Bridgewater, MA, branch, which is already connected to a second Harte-Hanks print-on-demand center in Jacksonville, FL.

“These assets will help our company meet our client’s direct printing needs, more flexibly, allowing for more efficient service,” said Chet Dalzell, director of public relations at Harte-Hanks, New York.

Terms were not disclosed.

Print-on-demand is a growing field of the digital marketplace. Industry experts forecast that the digital print marketplace will grow at an annual rate of 12 percent, reaching $60 billon in total revenues by 2009, according to con sulting firm Infotrends/ Cap Ventures.

Harte-Hanks offers direct and interactive marketing services to direct marketing businesses. Its portfolio includes the Harte-Hanks Postfuture e-mail marketing service arm, the technology e-mail database, Web site and interactive advertising design, hosting and search marketing applications, electronic fulfillment and digital printing.
