Hammacher Schlemmer Cuts Costs, Saves Time With Self-Published E-Catalogs

Multichannel merchant Hammacher Schlemmer reduced time and costs related to content publishing by 66 percent as a result of using Scene7 On-Demand to add dynamic sizing, zoom and online catalogs to its Web site, hammacherschlemmer.com.

The Chicago-based merchant has a small Web staff and originally outsourced its online catalog production to a third-party vendor. Because of costs and lack of control over the quality and publishing schedule, it moved to in-house publishing of its e-catalogs using Scene7 On-Demand, which allows companies to control the production and publishing of their own rich media.

“With Scene7, we are now able to create an online version for every print catalog issue — increasing our output by 300 percent — by creating our own e-catalogs in-house,” Dayna Bateman, Hammacher Schlemmer’s director of Internet marketing, said in a statement. “Our customers love the flash-based interactivity, as evidenced by stronger conversion rates versus regular site shoppers,” she added.
