Gucci Group picks Demandware for e-commerce help

Luxury goods company Gucci Group has picked Demandware to manage its e-commerce initiatives, the companies announced April 20.

Gucci Group will use Demandware’s platform to build e-commerce sites for its Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Bottega Vaneta, Sergio Rossi, Stella McCartney and Yves Saint Laurent brands in the US and Europe.

Bottega Vaneta’s site will be the first to debut in late summer, according to Jamus Driscol, VP of marketing at Demandware. He declined to provide specifics about the length and budget of the deal, or the hiring process.

The fashion company selected Demandware because of its support for multiple languages, currencies and payment types and experience launching international e-commerce sites, according to a statement from Demandware.

Demandware named Tom Ebling CEO in February. He previously worked in the same role at Lattice Engines, a business-to-business maker of sales and optimization technologies.

The company also launched a mobile commerce site for Columbia Sportswear last month, as well as an e-commerce portal for the brand last May.

Representatives from Gucci Group and Demandware could not be immediately reached for comment.
