A group dropped its challenge of Colorado's no-call law following the U.S. Supreme Court's refusal to consider a constitutional challenge to the national no-call list, Colorado attorney general Ken Salazar said yesterday.
In a statement, Salazar commended the group, Colorado Citizens for Free Speech, for dropping its challenge and said the Supreme Court's decision made clear that further legal action against the Colorado no-call law would be fruitless. Colorado Citizens for Free Speech, headed by mortgage company owner Jeffrey Burke, challenge the law in June 2002, but in August a U.S. District Court judge ruled against the group.
The group filed an appeal Sept. 24. However, on Oct. 4 the Supreme Court declined to hear a petition by the American Teleservices Association to overturn the national no-call list, ending any further dispute over the constitutionality of no-call lists.
