Google Exec Tapped as Weather Company CMO

In conjunction with the expansion of its marketing and communications group, The Weather Company today named David Jaye its chief marketing officer. Jaye moves to the parent company of The Weather Channel and The Weather Underground from Google, where he was head of creative agency development.

Jaye sports a sterling pedigree in integrated marketing. In the late 1990s, he helped build digital practices in the automotive and consumer goods segments at OgilvyOne. He subsequently served as managing director of the U.K. region for Wunderman Interactive, SVP of marketing capability at Digitas, and EVP of digital for Europe and the Middle East for Draftfcb.

Working out of The Weather Company’s Atlanta headquarters, Jaye will be responsible for developing and leading the marketing and creative strategy for the company’s consumer brands. He will also oversee its marketing council.

“I’m thrilled to have a terrific leader like David join the company,” said Powell. “His strong digital marketing experience and passion for marketing will be a great asset and help strategically position Weather to show just how ‘It’s Amazing Out There’ across all of our brands.”

From 2009 to 2013, Jaye went on hiatus from the agency business to introuduce burritos to Sweden. His Lagom Burritos trucks became profitable within six months and grew at a 300% clip over the ensuing years, he says, helped in part by Facebook targeting. He currently is in the process of selling the franchising rights.
