Google Debuts Pay-Per-Click in Europe

Search engine company Google Inc. announced yesterday it has launched its self-service pay-per-click advertising program in the UK.

Like its pay-per-click offering in the United States., the UK AdWords program allows advertisers to buy search engine keywords related to the products or services they offer and pay only when users click on the results.

AdWords sponsored links appear to the right of Google’s unpaid Web search results.

Under the UK program, advertisers can target search engine users by 250 countries and six languages.

Google, which claims it has been profitable for 18 months, has offered this service in the U.S. for over a year.

The model was, however, pioneered by GoTo.com, which is now called Overture.
