Google Debuts Government Search Site

Google has developed a new Web site called Google U.S. Government Search, designed to make it easier to obtain government information and news.

The site at http://usgov.google.com lets people search from a single box rather than browsing through various federal, state and local government sites. Because the content is updated, users can get fresh news from sources like the White House, the Department of Defense, The Washington Post and Google News.

“Government employees frequently need to access information across agencies,” said Kevin Gough, product manager for Google U.S. Government Search, Mountain View, CA. “Government Search has a huge index of federal, state and local government content and the great Google search relevance that many government employees already use.

“We also wanted to make it easier for government employees to stay up to date on news from both government and other news outlets,” he said.

Users can tailor the layout of the page and can add content to the site. News from other sites can be added through an RSS feed.
