Google Adds TV Search

Google added a video search function last month, letting users search the content of television programs for video clips. In response, Yahoo bumped promotion of its Video Search, which lets users find TV clips, videos and other content, to the front page of its Web site last month.

Google's new tool, Google Video, lets users search content on whatever topic they choose from Fox News, the NBA, C-SPAN, PBS and other TV content producers. Users search for their topic in the TV program database that Google began indexing in December, view relevant clips and find out where and when to watch matching TV programs.

For television marketers, Google touts the service as a way to increase viewership by providing its users with information on future airings of relevant programs.

This early release of Google Video does not include the Google AdWords advertising option, which sends targeted visitors directly to advertisers' products, or playback options.
