Ruth Y. Goldway was reappointed and Tony Hammond was appointed last week by the Senate to be commissioners of the Postal Rate Commission.
Goldway was appointed by President Clinton to serve a partial term in 1998. Her current term expires in November 2008.
Hammond was appointed to complete a term expiring Oct. 14, 2004. President Bush made a recess appointment of Hammond to be a commissioner in August.
The PRC has jurisdiction over changes in postal rates, fees and mail classifications proposed by the U.S. Postal Service.
The president appoints the commissioners with the advice and consent of the Senate for a term of six years. Their main duties are to allocate costs among the mail classes and to act on mail classification changes. No more than three can be members of the same political party.
The other commissioners are chairman George Omas and vice chairman Danny Covington. One Democratic seat is vacant.
