Godiva Takes a Bite out of Wireless World With New Mobile Services

Godiva Chocolatier, New York, launched a wireless store locator service yesterday in an attempt to provide its customers with an additional means of obtaining retail center information.

The high-end chocolate retailer joined forces with Fry Multimedia, an e-business design, development and management firm, to debut the mobile service. The service enables Godiva mobile phone owners to locate any of the company’s 232 retail stores and 2,500 counters in department and specialty retail centers nationwide. The wireless application identifies a customer’s location, determines the closest Godiva store and displays an electronic map to that store.

The move to a wireless medium was made in response to customer queries on the Godiva Web site, www.godiva.com. The company said customers made more than 190,000 online searches in the past year on the site.

The Godiva Web site has been in existence for roughly five years and was originally designed by Fry Multimedia, Ann Arbor, MI. The site features a full selection of Godiva products, a personal address book, express shopping services, a gift reminder service and a list of dessert recipes.
