Gillespie Reorganizes Divisions

Gillespie, a 27-year-old agency now part of the Interpublic Group of Companies Inc., is tearing down the walls between its general advertising and direct marketing divisions to create a separate division.

Called the client business development group, the new unit is intended to strengthen the Princeton, NJ, agency's interactive services. The shop recently started using streaming video, HTML e-mails and interactive CD-ROMs.

Marcy Q. Samet, newly promoted to executive vice president and managing director, will head the client business development group.

In a related development, Gillespie is merging its advertising and direct creative teams into a separate unit. Mike Edelstein and Tom McManimon will jointly head the group. Both will report to Samet.

A full-service agency, Gillespie last year reported billings of more than $210 million.
