The Federal Trade Commission released results of an informal survey of Web sites yesterday that found minors can easily access gambling Web sites and are often exposed to advertising for online gambling on non-gambling sites.
The FTC, which visited more than 100 gambling sites, found that 20 percent of the sites had no warning about underage gambling prohibition. Many of the other sites had inadequate or hard-to-find warnings, according to the FTC. The survey also found that the sites had no mechanism to block minors from entering and playing.
“Here’s what we learned: Online gambling and kids is a bad bet,” FTC chairman Timothy J. Muris said in a statement.
