Former DMA Chairman 'Andy' Andrews Dies at 84

Francis S. “Andy” Andrews, who served for two terms as chairman of the board of the Direct Marketing Association in the 1970s, died June 15. He was 84.

Andrews, who lived in Lincoln, MA, since 1959, also served as a trustee on the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation's board and was the chief elected officer of the Mail Advertising Service Association (now called the Mailing & Fulfillment Service Association) in 1959-60.

Andrews founded American Fund Raising Services Inc. in 1947 and wrote the definitive textbook on direct mail fundraising, “Billions by Mail –Fund Raising in the Computer Age,” according to the Lincoln Journal.

He is survived by Dorothy Jane, his wife of 60 years, and his sons, Scott F. of Portland, ME, and Robert J. of Hopkinton, MA. Donations in his name may be sent to the Andrews Scholarship Fund, attention: Amos Orcutt, University of Maine Foundation, Orono, ME 04469.
