Fingerhut Plans Call Center in Minnesota

Fingerhut Direct, Minneapolis, announced yesterday that it will open a new call center in Evelyth, MN.

The 106-seat call center will provide inbound and outbound operations for functions such as order entry, customer service and collections. Hiring and training of part-time, full-time and seasonal representatives will take place during the next two months.

“They will start taking calls at the end of September,” said spokeswoman Mary Pernula. “By the end of September, we expect to have approximately 30 [people hired], and by the end of October, we expect to have 80. Some of the 80 will be seasonal. [The total] could go beyond 80 [but] that will depend on volume.”

The split between those handling inbound and outbound duties “will depend on needs as they develop,” Pernula said. She could not provide specifics when asked about the number of workers who will be part-time, seasonal or full-time.

She also didn't provide numbers regarding the company's anticipated growth.

“This is our first full year of operation, so it's difficult to forecast those things,” she said. “We have at least two catalog mailings each month, so it's to prepare for the third and fourth quarter.[The frequency of catalog mailings] will remain constant, I believe.”
