Fingerhut Opens Call Center

Fingerhut Direct opened a new 115-seat call center last week in St. Cloud, MN, in anticipation of additional growth during the second half of the year, the company said yesterday.

“We had less than 30 people answering the phones in a different building in St. Cloud,” company spokeswoman Mary Pernula said. “They will move into the larger location. We are hiring 30 phone representatives currently, and we will continue hiring until we reach 115.”

She did not specify when the number of reps would reach 115.

“The business is growing, and we're anticipating additional growth as we go into the third and fourth quarters,” she said, while not providing specifics. “We're meeting our expectations regarding growth and the business plan.”

The call center will operate as both an inbound customer service center and an outbound collections center.

Fingerhut, Minneapolis, expects to add eight or nine Spanish-speaking phone reps this month.

Since January, new Fingerhut catalogs have been mailed regularly to current customers and a portion of the company's former customers. The company said that as its customer base grows, employees will be added in many areas.
