Fax Marketer Hit With $1.1M Fine

The Federal Communications Commission has ordered a broadcast fax marketer based in the UK to pay a $1.1 million fine for multiple violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the agency said Friday.

The fine is the largest cash penalty the FCC has ever ordered for a TCPA violation, the FCC said. The fax marketer, 21st Century Fax Ltd., broke TCPA rules on 152 occasions, even after receiving a written warning from the FCC, the agency said.

According to the charges, London-based 21st Century Fax sent unsolicited commercial faxes, banned under the TCPA, to consumers. The faxes advertised opinion polls and provided a pay-per-call number that consumers can call to register a vote or express an opinion.
