EyeWonder Picking up Slack of RadicalMail's Demise

EyeWonder Inc., a developer of instant streaming video technologies, said it has picked up three or four new clients that have abandoned Radical Communication, which has said it would close if it could not find a buyer.

John Vincent, EyeWonder's CEO, said his company often competed directly with Radical Communication for business, particularly in rich media e-mail applications. He would not name the companies that EyeWonder, Atlanta, has picked up from Radical Communications since Radical announced it was having problems.

However, the company recently signed AOL Moviephone, a division of AOL Time Warner, which dropped Radical Communication in favor of EyeWonder, Vincent said. But the switch came before Radical Communication announced it was in trouble, he said.

“The reason why we were successfully competing with Radical Communication is because our technology facilitates better image quality,” he said. “A lot of direct marketing companies are talking with us.”

Radical Communication, Marina Del Rey, CA, which offers the RadicalMail rich media e-mail service, said earlier this month that it had drastically curtailed its operations and would close soon if it could not find a buyer.

EyeWonder recently introduced EyeMail, an e-mail product that lets marketers develop rich media e-mail campaigns featuring video, Vincent said. EyeMail can be viewed by nearly any browser and offers video that starts automatically when the message is opened.

The company also offers EyeMedia for advertisers, which can stream video to a banner ad on a Web page. EyeWonder is working with 24/7 Media Inc. and Engage Inc. to serve rich media banners.
