ExpoTV, Charter Media bring user-generated video to TV

Web site ExpoTV, which is home to over 100,000 video consumer product reviews, and cable TV operator Charter Communications have teamed up for a promotion designed to bring user-generated video to on-demand TV.

Starting July 26, residents in the St. Louis area are being asked to submit video reviews showcasing their favorite products that help them beat the summer heat. Charter Communications digital customers will be able to access the videos 24 hours a day through the company’s on-demand service. All approved video reviews will be available in a new Beat the Heat category as well as on www.expotv.com.

“The Beat the Heat contest allows our customers to interact with television in a unique way,” said Mike Szczechura, VP, ad sales and operations, Charter Media, St. Louis, in a statement. “Programs like Beat the Heat continue to demonstrate how our cable platform is a superior venue for consumers to get what they want, when they want it. By adding user-created videos, we are continuing to define cable as a safe, fun, interactive place for consumers to engage,” he continued.

“Great content like our members’ authentic product reviews should live everywhere people are watching video. We don’t believe that user-generated video should only be confined to the Internet,” said Daphne Kwon, CEO, ExpoTV, New York, in the same statement.

The Beat the Heat contest runs through September 3. Published reviews will be considered for a chance to win a new Panasonic PV-G320 wide-screen camcorder and Power Director 5 video editing software.
