Experian Segments World's Consumers

A complete makeover of Experian's Mosaic Global consumer classification system divides the world's wealthiest nations into 10 types of individuals.

These socioeconomic groups are Low Income Elders, Sophisticated Singles, Post-Industrial Survivors, Rural Inheritance, Metropolitan Strugglers, Hardworking Blue Collar, Routine Service Workers, Career and Family, Comfortable Retirement and Bourgeois Prosperity.

Experian, a $2.5 billion database marketing giant, said the percentage of each consumer type in individual countries varies according to wealth, economic and social development. But the consumers in each group behave in a similar fashion.

Mosaic Global covers 23 countries like Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Britain, France, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Japan, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Canada, China's Hong Kong and the United States.

Each country has its own typology within the Mosaic Global group classification. They are identified by country-specific names.

For example, there's Greece's Local Shopkeepers, Denmark's Green Idealists, Hong Kong's Expats and Super Rich, Ireland's Celtic Roots, France's High Rise in Paris, the United States' Southern Blues, New Zealand's Suits and Gumboots and Australia's Busy Bush and Beach.
