Europolitan Vodafone Targets Young Adults With Prepaid Calling Card

Europolitan Vodafone, a mobile phone operator, yesterday began offering a prepaid calling card labeled CU designed for young people using wireless phones.

The card is primarily aimed at consumers age 15 to 25. The calling card provides consumers with minutes on both wireless application protocol and short message service phones.

The company said the card is designed with late-night and weekend phone use in mind. For example, mobile phone and WAP usage after 7 p.m. and on weekends is discounted through the card at 0.60 Swedish kronor, or 5.7 cents in U.S. dollars, per minute. SMS usage during the day is priced at 1.30 kronor per message, and WAP usage is charged at 4 kronor per minute between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Prepaid card users also are provided with access to the Web site, www.wannacu.com, to learn about the card services and chat with other users. The site's goal is to develop into a community for young people, the company said.

The card is available in all Europolitan and Ocom stores and through value coupons sold at Statoil, Pressbyran, 7-Elevan and ATG.
