ERA European Conference Opens On Remote Island

MADEIRA,PORTUGAL-The Electronic Retailing Association opened its annual European conference yesterday with 255 attendees from throughout the world. The conference marks the first time more than half of attendees were from Europe, said Elissa Myers, president of the association.

While Madeira boasts lovely weather, its secluded locale off the coast of Morocco, made it difficult for attendees to schedule flights here. Lost luggage as a common complaint among attendees, some of which were made to wait up to two days to retrieve their belongings from the airlines. Myers said the association is considering hosting the conference nest year in Cannes, France, or Dublin, Ireland.

The association’s’ board members met yesterday to discuss new developments and initiatives for the year. It pans to launch a monthly print magazine to be distributed at its annual fall conference, in Las Vegas in October. It also appointed several new members to its European advisory board, including Kym Corrin of Interwood Marketing, Richard Whinfrey of K-Tel Marking, Martin Purcell of Quantum International and Jorgen Hansen of TV Shop Europe.
