Epixtar Corp. said yesterday that it had launched a new subsidiary to perform business-to-business teleservices sales for clients by using offshore call centers.
The subsidiary, Epixtar Marketing Services, has begun preliminary campaigns for two Fortune 1000 companies. Because Epixtar expects call volume requirements from clients to exceed its present capacity, the company said it is seeking to build new call centers abroad. Epixtar said it is negotiating with the government of the state of West Bengal in India to provide development incentives, such as a loan facility, and expected to have an agreement soon.
If the agreement is reached, the call center would be based in the city of Calcutta, employ 2,000 workers and have 1,000 seats. The company said it hoped to eventually expand to a total of 3,000 seats in Calcutta, which would act as Epixtar's base in Asia, by building more facilities at a campus near the Calcutta airport. The initial investment in the operation would be $5 million, Epixtar said.
