Engineering Site Expands E-Newsletters

GlobalSpec, Troy, NY, an engineering content site and search engine, has found its product-specific e-newsletters to be so successful that it plans 14 more this summer.

The company, which caters to the engineering, scientific, manufacturing and technical communities, already had boosted e-newsletter offerings from four to 40 over the past year.

“From the success of the four newsletters we had in readership and sponsorship, there was a demand from the engineering communities as well as the companies that serve those markets [to expand],” Chris Chariton, vice president of marketing services and product management at GlobalSpec said.

GlobalSpec also wanted to deliver more targeted e-newsletters because its mainstay weekly “Techs & Specs” e-newsletter, “is focused more on the general engineering community,” Ms. Chariton said.

GlobalSpec sports a database of two million users who are signed up for at least one of the 40-monthly newsletters — one million are on the “Techs & Specs” list.

Among the new newsletters are: “Industrial MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations)”; “Medical Equipment Design,” “Electronic Design,” “Data Acquisition,” “Power Transmission” and “MEMS Technology.”

“The decision to launch these specific e-newsletters was made in response to a number of factors, including circulation numbers of existing publications, feedback from readership surveys and industrial growth trends,” Ms. Chariton said.
