Online customer communications solutions provider eGain Communications Corp. yesterday said it would acquire Inference Corp. in a stock transaction valued at $78.6 million. eGain, Sunnyvale, CA, provides customer support infrastructure for e-commerce companies, while Inference, Novato, CA, provides knowledge-based solutions that help companies deliver personalized sales, service and support over the Web. Upon completion of the transaction, which is subject to shareholder and regulatory approval and is expected to close within the next 90 days, shareholders of Inference will own about 5.5 percent of eGain’s common stock, fully diluted.
