E-Commerce Transactions Continue Boom

Internet commerce transactions have grown 35 percent for the first quarter of this year over the same period last year, with the value of electronic transactions now at $2.75 billion, according to research released this month from the Winterberry Group LLC, New York, an information provider to direct marketers and e-commerce companies.

The report revealed that venture capitalists make up 57 percent of activity compared with 30.2 percent retail.

The top ten deals by size of investment or acquisition price accounted for almost $1.2 billion of the $2.7 billion (44 percent) in e-commerce deal volume during the first quarter of this year. The largest transaction was America Online's purchase of offline consumer information service company MovieFone.
