EBay Inc. next week is expected to begin enforcing a worldwide ban on trading items that use images or language depicting sentiments of Nazi Germany or organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan.
This comes after the Web firm came under pressure from French and American activists who called for a ban on Nazi materials. However, the online auction firm will make some exceptions.
Stamps and coins that involve Germany from the 1930s and 1940s will be permitted regardless of markings. Historical movies documenting the Nazi movement and dealing with World War II will also be allowed. So will general Germany memorabilia from the era that does not include Nazi content.
The online auction Web site also will ban items involving notorious murderers of the past 100 years.
“We are allowing a great enough distance from the time of the murders so that it shouldn't end up upsetting any surviving members or next of kin connected to the horrific crimes,” said Kevin Pursglove, spokesman for eBay, San Jose, CA.
