DoubleClick Inc. said yesterday its net loss for the first quarter improved to just more than $6 million, or 4 cents per share, from a net loss of $60.4 million, or 48 cents per share, a year ago.
Revenue in the quarter fell to $83.6 million, from $114.8 million in first-quarter 2001.
However, on a pro forma basis, the company reported its first profitable quarter, posting income of $1.4 million, compared with a pro forma loss of $10.5 million a year earlier. DoubleClick's pro forma results do not include about $1.2 million in certain restructuring, non-cash and acquisition-related charges.
DoubleClick said revenue from its TechSolutions division fell to $50.4 million in the first quarter, from $54.9 million a year ago. DART and e-mail results are included in the division's results. The company said it delivered 171 billion impressions in the first quarter, down from 172 billion in the fourth quarter of 2001.
The Media division generated revenue of $16.3 million, down sharply from just over $46 million a year ago. Revenue from DoubleClick's Data division rose slightly to $18.218 million, from $18.214 million last year.
DoubleClick also said it expects second-quarter revenue of $77 million to $82 million. It noted that e-mail technology within its TechSolutions division is expected to generate $9 million to $10 million. Overall, TechSolutions is expected to generate $48 million to $51 million in the second quarter. Its Data business is expected to post revenue of $18 million to $19 million, and its Media business is expected to generate $11.5 million to $13 million.
The company said it ended the first quarter with $754.1 million in cash and equivalents, down from $752.2 million a year earlier.
